Hailing from near the devil’s wilderness, across the blue yonder, I was called out of obscurity to be a disciple of Jesus, a husband, a dad of 3 girls and a pastor on a ‘ministry sabbatical’ who is currently living in Calgary. I’m a lover of cultures, food, the occasional cold brew, a bookworm, an avid sports fan, and I’m slowly learning the banjo!
My name is Dave. This is my blog. It’s a place for my musings on culture, food, books, theology and what it means to plod along in ministry for God’s glory.
The name of the blog ‘A Modern Exile’ comes from the following:
But seek the welfare of the city where I have sent you into exile, and pray to the Lord on its behalf, for in its welfare you will find your welfare. ~ Jeremiah 29:7
We all long for Eden, and we are constantly glimpsing it: our whole nature at its best and least corrupted, its gentlest and most humane, is still soaked with the sense of ‘exile’. ~ J.R.R. Tolkien
Though I don’t like labels, I would probably say that I am theologically reformed, baptistic in practice, evangelical, a restrained charismatic and can be somewhat contemplative.
